The story

This cowrie shell is from Malindi. The seller suggested it would work as a great ash tray but in times past such shells would be blow into for call signals. I tried blowing the shell but I think I don't have the right technique for it since no actual sound was produced. I settled with the title as "Ancestral Call"

A border of about a twentieth of the shorter edge, the same proportion used on the reference prints. It gives the image room to breathe and is the usual choice for a wall at eye level. The same photograph converted to black and white before printing.
